Speaker Pelosi on Children’s Health Insurance

The House is considering the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009, HR 2, legislation to expand the State Childrens Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to cover 11 million children. The program currently provides health insurance for more than 7 million children, but this legislation will protect coverage for those children and expand it to include an additional 4 million children who would otherwise be uninsured.

    My biggest problem with bills like these are it doesn’t attack the problem. Twenty years ago we would not have needed a bill like this.

    This is a reaction to bad parenting and bad government that is just going to throw more money at a problem without resolving anything. If you cut gym and recess from schools, and cram the kids in small rooms for more hours and fill the school with sugar loaded vending machines. The kids will remain unhealthy. This bill is just for political points. It is sick.
